Home for the Holidays

Lights, Caroling, Christmas Movies, Baking Cookies, the Smell of Cinnamon, Decorations, The Nutcracker, Wrapping Presents, Cranberries, Egg Nog, The TREE, Cold Weather and Scarves!!  We LOVE everything about Christmas.  EVERYTHING!  In San Diego, it’s not very cold and it seems a bit odd to hang Christmas lights in 80 degree weather.

But we did and we loved every minute of it.  Outside, it felt like pure summer, but inside our tiny little apartment overlooking the ocean, it was All Christmas!  We soaked it up, enjoyed our little decorated tree and then happily packed our warm sweaters and boots and flew East for Christmas with our families.

James got to fly back a week early and spend some time with his family in Virginia before meeting me in Atlanta for his first Christmas away from home.  He left his warm home, full of family and love and the outlook of snow and flew south.  Atlanta hasn’t had a white Christmas since 1892 and here a storm was coming to Virginia to lay a blanket down of white on Christmas Day.  If you know anything about James and Christmas, you know this was a huge deal to leave all that.  But he did and I’m so thankful for that.

We spent Christmas with my family.

We had Egg Nog and German Pancakes on Christmas morning and listened to Christmas music and just as we opened our very first Christmas present, James looked out the window and there it was.

A snowflake.  It was snowing on Christmas morning.  It came down slow and didn’t stick at first, but our hearts were happy and it made each present a little more special.  It didn’t stop coming down and soon, the snow stuck and as it continued to come down, we snuggled by the fire.

Just like the favorite Christmas song states…“Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we’ve noplace to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” It was perfect and I was so happy that with James spending his first Christmas away from home, the very best gift I could have given him would be a White Christmas, only I have no control over that.  But it happened and he was SO extremely happy and it was a truly great Christmas.
